Negotiations between India and France for the purchase of the Raphael aircraft began in 2012 and were suspended for two years, but were resumed in 2014 after Modi took over the government.
In September 2016, the two countries signed a costly agreement worth 80 8.8 billion to buy 36 Rafale aircraft, the most expensive. On the other hand, the Congress had alleged that Anil Ambani was with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visited France on April 10, 2015 to purchase 36 aircraft.
